Photo 2.144 The recessed jack plate was a nice design touch by Leo Fender, however impractical. Players over the years have replaced this complicated assembly with items as simple as a Les Paul plastic jack-plate cover. It’s considerably easier to install, and a lot more dependable. It just doesn’t look as cool.

Plug the guitar into an amplifier to test the connections and ensure you have a working instrument. If not, check for shorts and disconnected wires. Telecasters are wired very simply, and there’s not much to diagnosing an output problem (photo 2.145).
